Really important disclaimer + other information!

Purpose

Being active on Tumblr, I get many DMs requesting to donate or share fundraisers for people suffering in the war happening in Gaza. I want to help and offer what aid I can but I also get a Lot of requests- so many that I can't keep up with or publish them all. Rather than overwhelm my followers, I decided to make this archive to track progress and campaigns that have reached out to me in an effor to 1) organize information and 2) record progress.

Who Am I

Literally, I am an internet rando. I am not a figure of authority on anything happening and I want to be really clear about that. I'm just someone who needs to do something because the pain I feel reading about Gaza's suffering is immense. I am aware that my efforts on this might be pathetically small and risk pointlessness but these are my skills and this is my platform. Outside of donations, this is what I can do.

On Fundraiser Legitimacy

I DO NOT vet campaigns. I do not have the authority or standing to definitively decide one way or another if personal fundraiser campaigns are legitimate. When someone reaches out to me with a campaign I do a preliminary check of their links and that's pretty much it. I leave the vetting to the multiple groups on Tumblr working to catalog legitimate fundraisers and call out bad actors. If you choose to donate you need to do your own legwork to make sure things look good to you. I DO note on each fundraiser whether it's been vetted, by whom, and include links for where you can double check that but doing your own research on these is also required. I can't take responsibility for donations made to scam accounts.

That being said, you can post concerns about scam accounts anonymously in the Guestbook and I'll look into possibly removing the entry based on what I find.

On Vetting Discourse

There's been some heated talk about the way many people treat the "vetted" status of Gaza fundraisers on Tumblr and I wanted to make a couple things clear.

  • Do I post unvetted campaigns? Yes.
  • Does vetting guarantee a campaigns legitimacy? No.
  • I push to get campaigns vetted because getting on those lists makes the fundraisers WAY more visible to donors and because the added vetted status entices more donations, which is the whole point of what I'm doing.
  • Basically, assuming that a Palestinian campaign is a scam unless vetted kinda sits wrong with me but at the same time, I can't deny on a pragmatic level that vetted campaigns are seen by more people and trusted faster.
